At the beginning of the year, many people come up with New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately for some people, those resolutions never see the light of day. Why do some people never accomplish their resolutions? It is because they do not have ‘big’ faith in themselves and in their power to accomplish them. They are held back by too much caution and therefore the resolutions dissipate for lack of a backbone. No matter how great and how splendid your resolutions appear on paper, you have got to have a persistent thought of and belief in your ability to accomplish what you have purposed to undertake.
For you to accomplish your endeavours, you must have the kind of determination that burns all bridges behind it, knows no defeat and which never looks back. You must have confidence in yourself and commit yourself with a determination to win at any cost. Your mind should be fixed toward your goals so stubbornly that nothing on earth can stop you from your purpose until you attain them. And in setting your aims, be sure to set very high goals for yourself that will make you be something to in order to attain them.
Nothing was ever accomplished by a half-hearted desire. No lukewarm energy or indifferent ambition ever accomplished anything. Not only must the desire for the thing you long for be kept supreme, but there must also be concentrated intensity of effort to reach your objective. There is a big world of difference between a person who thinks that ‘perhaps’ he can do or who ‘will try’ to do a thing and a man who ‘knows’ he can do it and one who is ‘bound’ to do it. This is the real difference maker between mediocrity and excellence.
