Fellow citizens of this great nation, allow me to share with you some thoughts as concerns a subject that we are all acquainted with, and one that is most talked about on the media, second only to sex. I am referring to the ill that has bedeviled our country-corruption. I plead with you not to rage against corrupt politicians; if it were not for the politicians that we elected, we would not have fallen into the trench that we are in right now and your opportunity of ever becoming a great politician would have been greatly diminished.
Let us bear in mind that every corrupt person who becomes rich throws down behind him the ladder by which he rises and keep others down; but every man or woman who refuses to enrich himself through corruption opens a way for thousands to follow him and inspires them to do so.
In my considered opinion, we cannot slay the dragon of corruption by talking about it. Talking about it doesn’t make it less of a problem: We have idolized it far too long. The more we talk about it, the more we desensitize our society about its negative influence in everything we do. We cannot neutralize it by talking more and more about it. All talk only tends to perpetuate the wretchedness it aims to eradicate.
The least we could do is to channel our energy into remedying the situation. We must begin to concern ourselves with the cure with a purposeful determination. The media houses cannot in the least help our country by widespread debates and broadcasts on corruption but by getting images of integrity into the minds of our citizenry. That is the best way they can help.
We don’t need debates or talk shows about corruption. We need inspiration to help us rise up out of this misery. I appeal to our brothers and sisters in the media houses to champion such a cause. Corruption can be done away with not by increasing the number of well to do people who think about corruption but by increasing the number of people who purpose to stand tall with unquestionable integrity.
